Bedhead? Me? Are you certain?

Her bedhead can be an all day affair – especially with hats and winter static in play.

Today Ezri pointed at a boy she was playing with and said, “Pee-yew stinky diaper.” We need to work on Ezri’s manners. She’s taken to asking for things “RIGHT NOW” and when asked to ask politely she smiles and then says, “Please. Apple Juice, RIGHT NOW, Mama.” This doesn’t sound anything like, “May I please trouble you for some apple juice at your earliest convenience, darling mother?” No, it doesn’t.

Baseball is my favorite game

If you ask ezri what her favorite game is, she’ll say “baseball”. I think this has more to do with the song “William’s Doll” from “Free to be You and Me” than any true love of the sport. All the same, I couldn’t stop her from trying on this batting helmet.

Pride of accomplishment

Ezri found the dvd remote, mashed buttons, and successfully got to the title screen of the disc.  She then turned to me, beaming, and said “i turned music on!”

Chatting with Ezri

ON COOKIES:
Me: Do you want a cookie, Ezri?
Ezri: Let’s do it everybody!!!

ON HANGING OUT:
Ezri: What’s going down?
Ezri answering her own question: Just sitting around and around and around and around. (It’s cuter if you can see the circular head wobble she does while saying this.)

ON GETTING DOWN:
Ezri: Get Down. Get Down. (as she gets out of her chair)
Ezri: Dada do Jungle Boogie.

ON BABIES AND MAMAS:
Me: Are you my baby?
Ezri: No.
Me: Are you my big girl?
Ezri: Yeahhhhhh. And Amanda is Ezri’s big mama.

Ezri by the Numbers

Today was Ezri’s 2 year well check doctor’s appointment.

Ezri’s Weight = 30.33 lbs
Average 2 year old girl =28.4 lbs.
Ezri’s Height = 36 and 1/2 inches
Average 2 year old girl = 30 inches
She’s off the growth chart in height.

I forgot to take note of her head circumference since Ezri was screaming her head off about being at the doctor’s office at that point. I know I was not an easy child to take to the doctor, so this may be karma. But her head circumference is up in the 80th percentile. When she says, ‘Ezri is a big kid.” She is absolutely right.

Here’s a card Grandma Liz made Ezri for her birthday.

It’s above freezing.

There’s no active percipitation.
It’s time to go to the park.

Upon getting outside Ezri said, “It’s sunny.”
Then she pointed up and said, “Ezri see moon.” Indeed, even with the sun shining you could see the moon in the sky.
It’s also warm enough that there are muddy puddles to stomp in.

I’m not sure why we were the only ones at the park this afternoon, but we had a good time. It was a little tricky to get to the park because while the rest of the neighborhood has shoveled their sidewalks, the park district has not gotten around to the sidewalk in front of the park. Ezri ran through the snow to the swings as if greeting old friends. It has been awhile.

She showed me how she can swing big girl style. “Ezri big girl swinging.”

I vetoed her ideas about climbing the jungle gym ladders or swinging on the monkey bars. Mittens and clunky wet boots are not safety tested for these activities and I decided we would not test them today.

She did slide down into the snowpile over & over again.

It was great to be outside and made me hungry for spring. We did hear twittering birds on our walk to the park. So, we know it will come.

The Big Number 2

For Ezri’s birthday, we had friends over to the house for a playdate.

Ezri got a BIG birthday hug from her pal.

We had Ezri’s favorite snacks with lots of fruit and cheese sandwiches. The two almost one-year-olds who attended did a good job on the cheese sandwiches.

We had a break to watch the train go by our window. You can also see our big icicles in this photo. Ezri calls them “bicycles.”

We shared Ezri’s favorite book Pete the Cat by Eric Litwin with her friends.

We did a rhyme with fingertapping.

We danced.

Ezri was not sure about cupcakes last year at her first birthday. This year she knows she likes them – especially these homemade chocolate ones where she got to pick the frosting color – GREEN(Thanks, Michele). She left nothing but crumbs which you can see all over her.

After her playdate, it was naptime. But in the evening the birthday celebration continued with a trip out to The Two Toots Cafe with her grandparents. Here she is watching the model train go by our table.

At Two Toots, Ezri got to ride Champion the Wonderhorse.
She loved the gentle ride on this ancient metal horse.
She even suckered grandpa into an additional ride by saying, “Put money in here,” and pointing at the coin slot.

After her ride she said, “Thank you, Champion.” Then “Ezri hug Champion” which she did. “Kiss Champion,” which she also did. When we left the restaurant Ezri made sure to say, “Bye-bye, Champion.”

A great second birthday of fun! Thanks to friends, toddlers, grandparents, and, of course, Champion the Wonderhorse.

All The Grandparents

Ezri enjoyed having all her grandparents together this evening.

She led us in “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and would point out those not singing or clapping with a request for them to join in. “Mama clap!” She did this direction while standing in the middle of the room with the seated parents and grandparents arrayed around her. She also led the alphabet song and performed ring-around-the-rosie happily falling over many times.

Ezri proved she now knows what a grandparent is with statements like “Grandma Liz Dada’s mama.” At one point she smiled big and said, ‘Ezri is granddaughter.” It’s good times being the only grandchild, kiddo.

She got her dad to play follow the leader for multiple circuits through the house. She got Grandma Liz to let her go through all the zippered pockets of her purse.

All this, plus, she received a Hello Kitty birthday balloon and had her first taste of moussaka which she approves of highly and was permitted fudgy pudding cake for dessert.

Grandparents visiting

On Monday, Ezri had her last Early Walker storytime. She’s been attending since she was about ten months old, so it feels like a milestone to graduate from being a storytime Early Walker. Here she is posed with Grandpa Mark and one of her favorite librarians.

It looks to me like these two might be up to something.

Showing Tam the fine art of squishing dough.

Snow Day

When Eric went outside to shovel, Ezri wanted to as well.
I said we would need boots.
Ezri got her boots and started to put them on.
I said we need snowpants first and pulled hers out of the closet.

She put them on all by herself pretty quickly. She even zipped them herself. That’s why she looks proud in this photo.

I then got on her boots and her hat and her mittens.
She grabbed Pete the Cat and here is begging to bring him outside with us.
“Pete wants snow, Mama.”

After giving Pete a number of consolation hugs, he remained behind.

Eric had cleared a nice trench for us to walk in. Ezri commented that the neighbor was “Snow mowing” which is her word for using a snowblower.

Once she got bored of running back and forth in the trench Ezri attacked the snowbank.

She also forged a path of her own in the driveway.

When she ran into trouble she said, “Mama, help up.”

She really did want to help Eric with mammoth shoveling job.

She was not much help, but did offer a supportive hug for dad.

She was inside for a whole 20 minutes before grabbing her snowpants and asking to return to the snow. But, I decided we’re waiting to suit up again until after nap.
