Ivan, it’s Sunday

This Monday morning Ezri told her little brother that it was Sunday and he would get to play video games.
I did not hear this exchange.
But when we told him it was Monday and he needed to get ready for school and he realized he’d been duped, he broke down sobbing.

Ezri apologized and faced consequences. She really thought it would be a funny joke when Ivan realized the prank.
Ivan was heartbroken. Ezri then cried because she realized she’d done wrong.

I find it super-funny in hindsight considering we all made it to school and work on time.

If someone had told me I’d get to linger in PJ bottoms with my coffee and then had shaken me awake and said, “Ha Ha, really it’s Monday.” Well, I can imagine how Ivan felt.

The thing about my brother

Ivan had to write one thing he wanted to do this weekend and went with “This weekend I want to play with my sister.”
I am so glad these two kids love each other.

Ezri now taller than garden sunflower. Ivan not yet.

Backseat Conversation

I wondered about parenting two kids because I’m an only child and two is twice as many kids as one.

Then I hear them talking together and being friends and genuinely supporting each other. I know it’s good that Ezri has her little brother. He will be the one person who truly understands the insanities of being raised by us.

Here’s a recently overheard conversation from the backseat of the car while I was driving:

i: When I grow up I’m going to be a builder.
e: What will you build?
i: Things people need. . . like Wii U.
e: So they can play Mario?
i: Yeah, so they can play Mario Maker. And then when I retire I’m gonna be a astronaut.
e: I’m going to be a vet.
i: When I’m a astronaut I’ll go to Mars cause nobody’s been there and it’s red.
e: If you have pets, I’ll take care of them while you are on your mission. Because ya’know I’ll be a vet, so I’ll be good with pets.

And because a post needs a photo:

Ezri is liking her new sewing kit with punched felt. It will make a cute bird when complete.

Dice

The kids have plenty of toys in the house. But on the afternoon pictured below, they found Eric’s box of dice and played together for 40 minutes or so. They stacked dice. They counted dice. They made dice have the same number facing up. They divided dice by color into teams. Ivan was in charge of green team. They debated whether white dice with black dots belonged on the same team as black dice with white dots. They divided dice by number of sides. They fought over the one perfectly round yellow die. Ezri asked whether the round die was a die or a ball and if maybe they should keep it with their marbles instead. If you are gifting a 3 – 6 year this holiday season, go ahead and buy them a bunch of dice. They make for good times.

Ezri enjoyed making sand birthday cakes for Cosia who is her imaginary friend and since she’s HER imaginary friend she gets decide Cosia’s favorite color and that color is blue so her birthday cake is blue, but Ivan can put green frosting on the cake if he wants and add the candles. Ivan just smiled and said, “I frosting! I frosting!”

Thanks to the Bacons for the sand turtle and the backyard chairs. It’s nice to feel our backyard welcoming us outside again with warmer weather.
