Ladye Ezri graduates the Imperial Academy

At her first Comics Convention, C2E2 at the McCormick Center, Ezri had an eventful day. First she was dubbed “Ladye Ezri” by a woman with an impressive sword and an even more impressive dress.

Quickly moving from long ago to long, long ago and far, far away, Ezri donned her C3PO costume from Halloween (which still fits, aside from the legs now being about 2 inches too short), and went to the Star Wars Imperial Academy.

Academy Cadets

Here, they issued helmets and blasters, and put the cadets through a series of drills, before issuing a certificate to each cadet.

Along the way, she met a stormtrooper

and her counterpart, R2-D2. We were both so excited to get this picture that we forgot to get one where her mask was off.

Despite the long lines, the whole family had a good time.

She made me a sandwich with lettuce.

We played delivery. Ezri also brought me cupcakes, oranges, and an imaginary pizza with olives.

She then took her baby doll and the sand pail she found on the porch and proceeded to have Baby Lily make retching noises into the bucket. She took good care of her sick Baby Lily and we were both grateful that the vomit was only pretend. I did not photograph Baby Lily’s illness.

Mother Daughter High Tea at the Arboretum

Despite flooding that meant most of the Arboretum was closed to the public, we got to sneak in the back entrance for the Mother Daughter Tea Time special event today.

We had tea made entirely of flowers and we got to strain it with fancy tea strainers. A flute and keyboard duo of musicians played fancy music like a medley from The Sound of Music right next to us. There were scones & cream and petit fours and miniature sandwiches on pretty trays. Ezri liked dissolving her sugar in her tea and enthusiastically squeezing lemons. She liked her bright pink cloth napkin though we kept losing it to the floor. That was just an excuse to crawl under the table which she also liked.

During craft time, Ezri made a tea cup planter for her dad decorated by drawing his face and writing his name on it by herself. Then she asked me to add Princess Leia and R2D2 and write Star Wars because Eric likes Star Wars. I started “Star Wars” in a color that was not pink, but Ezri insisted I switch to the pink marker. Eric declared the gift to be “the nicest cup of dirt he’s ever received.”

Here we are photographed by one of our tablemates. The chair behind me is where the flautist played.

After tea we explored the gardens, skipped alot, and climbed on bike racks.

It was a nice event with being fancy but still perfect for a young girl. Watching Ezri sit up super straight and sip her tea daintily was smile inducing.

Busy Sunday

Ezri wore her pinkest to party at her preschool friend L’s house for L’s 4th brithday.

Then in the afternoon we were off to the arboretum with Meghan. It was the first day warm enough to wade.

Spidergirl did some climbing.

Then she did some playing in the adventure woods. There is a portion of tree house there that I call “Ewok village” as it has that look. As soon as I asked if we should go to “Ewok village,” Ivan said “bacca.” That’s his word for Chewbacca who is not an Ewok, but for 19 months Ivan’s got some serious Star Wars knowledge.

Meghan took this picture of the small adventurer.

Eggs Rule! and mom gets to go to preschool.

This is our egg dying fun at Blau haus. Ezri loved drawing on the eggs with crayons and putting on stickers after dying.

Today I told stories at Ezri’s park district preschool. It was a blast. I spent an hour with books and preschoolers. We sang, danced, ROARED, and had a lot of fun. At the end of my visit Ezri came to give me a hug and a number of her classmates followed her lead, so I got heaps of preschooler love. I feel very lucky.

To the DGPL librarians who will see this same group of children in a couple weeks I read Dinosaur Vs. The Library, Shark in the Park, Barry the Fish with Fingers, Grumpy Bird, Do You Know Which Ones Will Grow?, The Doghouse, I am Invited to a Party, and A Cheese and Tomato Spider. We sang Alice the Camel, The Day I Went to Sea, and listened to BOOTS by Laurie Berkner. We made mixed-up animals on the flannel board and my blue kangaroo hid behind flowers in the garden. All the stories went over well, so if you end up repeating some of them I am sure the kids would be pleased.
