The first snow to cover the ground this year and the kids were SO READY to get out and do snowballs and snow stomping and snow fighting.
At the park, we also discovered a snow covered slide makes for a super fast ride.

Upon learning that it would be right around 4 degrees for our annual trip to the arboretum for their outdoors light show, Eric spent the morning using a pattern from the Internet, scrap fleece, and our serger to craft bella klava style hoods for us to wear. Here is Ezri modeling hers in the warmth of our home.
Ezri testing her outfit’s warmth in our driveway before heading out. She’s brandishing an icicle.
Very few photos were taken outside, thick gloves and cameras don’t play nicely together. But here are the kids hugging the tree that changes lighted colors when you squeeze it. Ivan enjoyed hunting for the “Glowman” a lighted snowman along the path that earned him a glow stick when he told the folks inside where we’d seen it.
Here we are back inside at the visitors’ center. We ate some chocolate and played some Yeti in Spaghetti.
That’s Meghan the friend who accompanied us. I assume you can now pick her out of any line-up.

Catching snowflakes on tongues
If you run through the snowflakes it’s like you are a spaceship.
Ezri running in circles in the yard saying, “Hyperspace!”
They are also both pretty good at hitting snowballs with a foam light saber.
Amanda made the best target for snowballs.
You can get just enough snow off the car hood for a satisfying snowball.

We put the kids to work cleaning off the car.
“Ezri and Ivan’s snowball delivery!” Then you get hit with a snowball and there is much laughing from the delivery persons.
We built a snowman. Ivan wanted blueberries for eyes. I had none and if I did the kids would eat them before they became eyes. Cheerios were used for eyes. The hat was hand dyed a decade ago in a color I call “cookie monster” blue.
I thought about having the kids name the snowman, but Ivan told me he was a boy and Ezri said she was a girl. We’ve been calling it the snow person and I do not want to try for a naming consensus.
We also began “Operation Igloo” in the backyard, but so far it’s more of a partial wall than an igloo. Luckily there’s plenty of snow and it should be around for awhile. Operation Igloo can continue.

Sledding was fun this weekend. We went down that hill over & over. This year Ivan could get himself back up the hill himself and did not need carrying or a sled ride back up. This year was also his first solo run on the sled. Last year he only rode with the grown-ups. Ivan likes wearing Ezri’s frog hat and pretending to be a mutant frog come to destroy the city with a fart gun. Ezri is a mutant monkey come to destroy the city also with a fart gun.
We met up with friends. Sledding with friends is even more fun.
The girls had various ideas of best ways down the hill. Here they are tying the sleds together to make a sled train.
