March 29th, 2013 — artwork
These are crafts she brought home from preschool this month.

I am not sure we’ve hit the lamb part yet, though I was outside without my winter coat yesterday. Ezri also donned her hello kitty helmet for her first bike ride to the park of spring. She has requested we install a bell. She declared herself to be “Bike GIRL!” Ivan was “Wagon BOY!” I was the superhero “Pull GIRL!” Given her pronunciation I thought I might be “pole girl,” but then realized she was referencing my job regarding the wagon.

She spent a long time getting her composition just right before allowing me photograph it.

Before placing it in the center of her artwork she spun the found milk ring on her finger and said, “My finger has a little hula hoop!”

She shared her toys with the 1-year-old twins.

She and Aunt Coral wore aprons to make the perfect hard boiled eggs.

She showed off on her trampoline and taught the little guys some bouncing moves.

It was a good visit.

March 18th, 2013 — books, Ezri speaks, Ivan
Can one take too many photos of her children in boxes?

Another collection of quotes from the girl:
“Look, I am a chicken – a magic chicken.” She was flapping her wings while jumping on her trampoline.
“I will always have this hair until I am a skeleton.”
Talking to her own reflection in the window, “Hi, Ezri, what are you doing?”
“After I put on my cupcake pajamas I am going to be a weeping angel.” Her dad taught her to play “weeping angel.” It’s like red light, green light – but creepier. She’s very good at moving a step and then holding the exact position she had before.
“Let’s scratch the back of Baby Agent.” This is a quote during Ezri’s game of secret agent. Ezri likes to play secret agent after reading the book, 006 and a Half by Kes Gray. She has enjoyed several of Gray’s Daisy Books. I think Daisy is a kindred spirit. Daisy makes up a spy language that reminds me of Ezri’s made up “friendly alien” language. So, Ivan is the Baby Agent and I am the Mama Agent and Ezri is 004 and a half. She’s not that old yet, but I let her play more mature. She likes telling me how sneaky she is. Announcing your sneakiness may not be the way to practice the art of stealth.
“I am really really old. I am SIX!”
“We are having a underwear and fur party.” When I looked Ezri was wearing only her underwear and was in the cardboard box with Sushi, the cat.

Amanda: Are you a bird?
Ezri: No, I have a bird in my brain

Ezri makes a foam bug with a craft kit and says, “I want my bug to FLY.”
I tell her he isn’t going to fly.
She comes to the kitchen to say, “My bug is flying. Come see.”
She’s taped him to a balloon brought home from a friend’s birthday party.
Voila! flying bug.

She told me she wanted to dress up as me. I said I didn’t think we had an “Amanda” costume. Apparently, her doll also wanted to dress up as Amanda.

March 7th, 2013 — Ezri speaks

“My art is not a joke.” While her brother was laughing at her letter sculptures.
“When I am a grown up I want to be a artist and a mama.”
“The clouds are making a zero. It is very nice of them to make one of our favorite numbers.”
“Who will live in our house when we are dead?” Parents do not always have the answers.
“Are there mailboxes in New Zealand?”
Ezri is developing a sense of humor. Ezri’s jokes currently sound like these.
“Why did the chicken climb the hill? POO!”
“What did the mouse do when he was angry? POO!”
“What did dinosaur do after dinner? PEE POO!”
I’ve told her I don’t find them funny and she doesn’t need to tell me pee or poo jokes anymore. She tells them to Ivan. He finds them hilarious. She tells jokes to him in the backseat of the car and when they are together under the table. We know Ivan knows what poo means since he points at his diaper and says “boo” sometimes which means, “I have pooped in this, change me.” So, she has the scatological and the element of the unexpected in her humor though she quickly loses that because the answer is always pee or poo.
March 5th, 2013 — outside play

We built a snow castle. Ezri helped shovel. She brushed off the car. She threw snowballs at the house. We stomped all around. She made me imaginary alphabet soup as Fluttershy the pegasus braving the creepy forest for ingredients. You know your standard snow day sort of fun.

March 4th, 2013 — artwork

Ezri used google eyes for this dog drawing. Her drawings have gotten much more representational.
I said I liked the five fingers he had on each hand.
She informed me those are his sharp, sharp claws.
I was told this morning by Ezri that she is wearing her fuzzy dress which is a stretch velveteen so that I will give her lots of hugs because she loves me. Later I was told that no parents should be allowed in this house and she could make her own lunch and did not need parents. We’re running hot and cold here.
