Giant decorated Christmas tree
Enchanted Railway fascinated both kids. Ezri liked counting the train cars and figuring out the trains relative sizes this year. Ivan loved every time the Thomas the Tank Engine train came past.
Ivan loved this big red button. It controlled some miniature sledders that would sled down a miniature hill when you pushed the button. It was not so important what it did but more that it was big, red and pushable.
On the gnome hunt, we found 7 of 15 gnomes hidden in the Children’s Garden. We’ll have to go back to find those other gnomes.

It warms up and we head to the Children’s Garden with friends.
If you click on the acorn tag and get all the acorn posts, you can see her in this favorite spot across years.
Daffodils
May 1st, 2013 — arboretum, outside play
Ezri brought along Minnie Mouse for a visit to Daffodil Glade.
At first she didn’t remember last year’s trip, but when she saw the field in bloom. She said, “I remember here!”
She was off and running and much better this year at avoiding daffodil trampling.
Ivan tried really hard to catch up with her, but despite his best efforts he was often far behind.
Chasing after your big sister is hard work. Luckily there were nice resting trees to lean against.
Mother Daughter High Tea at the Arboretum
April 21st, 2013 — arboretum
Despite flooding that meant most of the Arboretum was closed to the public, we got to sneak in the back entrance for the Mother Daughter Tea Time special event today.
We had tea made entirely of flowers and we got to strain it with fancy tea strainers. A flute and keyboard duo of musicians played fancy music like a medley from The Sound of Music right next to us. There were scones & cream and petit fours and miniature sandwiches on pretty trays. Ezri liked dissolving her sugar in her tea and enthusiastically squeezing lemons. She liked her bright pink cloth napkin though we kept losing it to the floor. That was just an excuse to crawl under the table which she also liked.
During craft time, Ezri made a tea cup planter for her dad decorated by drawing his face and writing his name on it by herself. Then she asked me to add Princess Leia and R2D2 and write Star Wars because Eric likes Star Wars. I started “Star Wars” in a color that was not pink, but Ezri insisted I switch to the pink marker. Eric declared the gift to be “the nicest cup of dirt he’s ever received.”
Here we are photographed by one of our tablemates. The chair behind me is where the flautist played.
After tea we explored the gardens, skipped alot, and climbed on bike racks.
It was a nice event with being fancy but still perfect for a young girl. Watching Ezri sit up super straight and sip her tea daintily was smile inducing.
Busy Sunday
April 8th, 2013 — arboretum, Ivan, outside play, party
Ezri wore her pinkest to party at her preschool friend L’s house for L’s 4th brithday.
Then in the afternoon we were off to the arboretum with Meghan. It was the first day warm enough to wade.
Then she did some playing in the adventure woods. There is a portion of tree house there that I call “Ewok village” as it has that look. As soon as I asked if we should go to “Ewok village,” Ivan said “bacca.” That’s his word for Chewbacca who is not an Ewok, but for 19 months Ivan’s got some serious Star Wars knowledge.
Winter day at Morton Arboretum
December 15th, 2012 — arboretum, Ivan, outside play
It was cold but we had a great time exploring the hedge maze for the first time and stopping by the Enchanted Railroad to warm up and watch the mini-trains go round and round.
Rainy Day at the Arboretum
October 22nd, 2012 — arboretum, outside play
Ezri loves playing with her friend, C.
Together they managed a pet store with river rocks playing the role of pets and the mamas being the customers.
I got a pet hamster and C’s little sister sold me shoes for him to wear.
T-storms moved in and we had to find shelter, but it was a good if damp morning.
