Ezri speaks

Even though Ezri is a tall 2, she’s not quite tall enough for this hoop yet.

Here are some collected Ezri comments & quotes of the last few days.

Speaking about the kitten and flower wall stickers stuck on the wall next to her bed right after a nap:
“Kittens wake up! Flowers don’t. Flowers no eyes.”

Speaking about the fact that Julia was wearing a fancy party dress, I was wearing a plain blue jersey dress, and she was wearing a patterned jumper dress.
“Julia dress! Ezri dress! Mama dress! MATCH-MATCH-MATCH!”
Yup. She hit the trifecta there.

On her in utero baby brother and the household no kicking rule:
Me: Ezri, do you want to feel the baby kicking?
Ezri: Baby no kick. No kick, mama. No kicking. Why he kick you? Why?

Conversation at Fourth of July fireworks after Ezri asking “Why is it dark?” “Why no climbing?” “Why is my ice cream gone?” “Why are you sitting there?” “Why are there fireworks?” Oh and by the way, “Why is it dark?” And generally asking why after any statement made by her parents.
Amanda: Did you know you are exasperating?
Ezri: What is exasperating?
Amanda: You are.
Ezri: Why am I exasperating?
parental laughter follows

Ezri has decided she doesn’t like the yolk of a hardboiled egg, though the white is GREAT.
Ezri: I eat the white. Mama eat the egg yuck.
Me: It’s egg YOLK.
Ezri: No, it’s yuck. Egg Yuck.
So, she’s a punster.

On July 6 speaking about the baby due Sept. 2: I am not sure how she put this all together, but I was impressed with this comment on the future and the sweetness of her wanting to show the new baby the ropes.
“Next time we go to the fireworks I will hold the baby’s hand in the parking lot.”

BIG Sister Monkey

Ezri found my monkey hat in the closet.
What you don’t have one of these in your closet?

Ezri put it on and said, “I am a big sister monkey.” She then ran to find her sock monkey and “here is baby brother monkey.”

She then taught her baby brother monkey important things like how to gently pet the cats.

She decided baby monkey needed to go for a stroller walk.

Here she is tickling her baby brother monkey.

Then we had to go inside. Ezri said baby monkey was hot and he needed a drink.

Happy 4th of July

Ezri enjoyed the Downers Grove parade.

Ezri at Storytime with Miss Rachel

Miss Rachel is moving to Mississippi, so this morning was her last storytime at the library.
We could not miss it.
Miss Rachel did many of Ezri’s early storytimes as she led the Early Walker storytime for kids walking to 23 months.
Ezri always asks about Miss Rachel when we go to the library and I know she will miss her.
I am not sure she yet realizes that Miss Rachel won’t be at library some days, though we’ve tried to explain. This is the first time a friend has moved away from town.

Good luck moving, Rachel. Ezri, Eric and I will miss you. I bet Miss Mouse will too.

Turn the hose on her!

Turn the hose on her and, as long as it has the sprinkler attachment, it will bring shrieks of joy.

Magnifying Glass

Ezri really likes this magnifying glass.
She uses it to pretend to be a vet and look in the eyes, the mouth, and under the tail of various stuffed animals. When the house cats are in range, she tries to examine them as well. She has been warned that this behavior may result in a time out or scratching incident.

Outside she discovered the magnifying glass was pretty good for looking at plants too.

Here she says, “BIG EYE! BIG EYE!”

Here she is saying, “I’m ‘spicious.” She can’t quite say suspicious, but she likes trying to look suspicious.

Package Arrives

Ezri was fascinated that the box that came with the mail carrier was for her.

E – “What’s in it?”
Me – “I don’t know.
E – “Mama, scissors, let’s open it!”

Inside was a purse with kittens on it. She has filled this with marbles and small stuffed cats. Carrying it around makes her look so grown-up – like five instead of just two.

There were wall stickers. Ezri was excited to stick them on the wall. We had to do it immediately. We’ve also had to discuss how not all stickers are for putting on the wall – just the ones that came in our box.

Ezri had to carefully decide how to place her kitties.
She would say, “Here ya’ go, kitty. You will be cozy here,” as she stuck each one.
She reached on her tip-toes to place the highest of them.
Then she decided which color flowers each kitten needed and discussed how the flowers matched – often placing ones of the same color near each other.
Here is the finished design.

She then had to see how tall she was against her new kitty wall. At naptime she kissed the kitties good nap and after nap she said, “Wake up, kitties!”

By far the best thing in the box was a pair of feathers from Norbert, the parrot. Here they are:

She used them to turn avian saying, “Ezri is a bird. FLY! FLY!”
See, how they are wings.

Then she took them to Manchi cat and said, “Now, you can fly Manchi. FLY! FLY!”
Manchi was unimpressed.

In other bird-related hijinks, Ezri has not yet learned that running after the robins at the park excitedly saying, “Come back, robins. COME BACK!” will never actually result in the return of the robins.

Ezri and Her Dad

Eric’s hair is even wilder than usual here because he let Ezri put plastic barrettes in it while it was still damp. Once removed the barrettes left buoyant curls.

This conversation I posted to facebook, but it is worth repeating. Ezri was so proud of her pee/ P.U. joke. So proud! It is also worth noting that this week was her first time peeing in her potty. It’s a TMI toddler milestone. We have only begun toilet training, but the game is on. Conversation follows:

Toddler: Do you want to see my toe jam?
Me: Sure.
Toddler: Do you want to smell my toe jam?
Me: Not really.
Toddler: It smells like pee.
Me: Really?
Toddler: It smells like pee-eww!

Unappreciative Felines

After Ezri worked hard in her play kitchen to “bake” these plastic play muffins and lovingly brought them to the relaxing kitties who had done naught to help, the cats did not show any gratitude.

Here are Ellie and Manchi with their muffins which Ezri has gently placed on or near the kitties for their convenience.

How to Eat A Cookie

Step 1: Remove all sprinkles and eat them commenting on their colors.

Step 2: Remove as much frosting as possible with your fingernails and eat it.
Resulting cookie as follows:

Step 3: Consider eating some of the actual baked good instead of just the toppings.

Step 4: MILK!

I rarely think my daughter looks like me as a kid, but in this blurry photo with her mouth full of cookie I can see a smaller me.
