Conversation in the car

Ezri: Where are we going?
Me: We’re going home.
Ezri: I don’t want to go home.
Me: It’s time for dinner.
Ezri: I don’t want dinner.
Me: Well, mama is hungry. I need dinner.
Ezri: No, mama is no hungry.
Me: Yes, mama is hungry.
Ezri: No, no it isn’t.
Me: If only reality were so easy to change.
Ezri: I don’t want to go home.

Marbles

A plastic bin, a bunch of marbles, and assorted plastic cups. . .

This game held her attention for 45 minutes which is epic in toddler time.

I also like to think she learned something about relative volumes as she tried pouring marbles from one cup to another.

She counted marbles, sorted them by size and by color. . . all kinds of learning going on.

I recommend this activity for toddlers who are past the putting-things-in-their-mouths stage. Marbles = choking hazards. Roly-poly, super fun choking hazards though.

Maiden Voyage

Eric assembled a surprise for Ezri this morning.

It’s our new wagon with all terrain wheels.
Ezri declared it “perfect.”
We took it out for its maiden voyage to the park tonight.

We talked about several of Ezri’s favorite books featuring wagons.
The charming Red Wagon in which a simple trip of taking a wagon to the market turns into an imaginative adventure with storms, pirates, train, and a circus. And then there is Fancy Nancy who loads up her wagon in Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy. Ezri is pleased we have our own red wagon. She asked for her stuffed dog, Woof Woof, to come on our trip to the park. There’s plenty of room in the wagon for friends. We will have to have some over to ride. . .

I knew parents got asked hard questions, but I wasn’t prepared for how hard this one was to explain.
“Why did he bite me?”
Ezri has her first mosquito bite of summer and keeps asking over and over, “Why did he bite me?” She can’t understand why the bug would do such a thing. We tried to explain that it is in their nature and part of their life cycle and they bite other people and animals not just her. This prompted a story about a mosquito who bit an elephant on his bottom and made it itchy. Despite our best answers, I think we will be hearing, “Why did he bite me?” until this bite feels better. The last few weeks have brought out many “why” questions. We used to get “what” and “who,” but why is here in a major way.

Theatrical Explorations

At a friends’ house this morning, Ezri had her first foray into improv theater.

Here she is creating her costume:

With the other players in her role as the prince:

While other moms were assigned the roles of vampire and monster, I was honored with role of horse and attempted to give a rainbow princess a ride to safety. Unfortunately, the vampire could fly. . .

Ezri got to kiss the princess awake – now she wants to kiss other things awake.
I suspect future morning smooches whether I want to wake up or not.

Thanks for a whole lot of fun to this gang of girls and their mothers.

Rollin’ with my Gnomies!

Happy Birthday, Aunt Amy.

Ezri is obsessed with birthdays.
They mean presents and cake and playing with friends.
I can see why she loves them.

So, she decided to wish her Aunt Amy a happy birthday.

We tried last year to have her say happy birthday to Amy. Here are the results of a year ago.

My, but she’s grown! Happy birthday, Amy. If you were closer, I’d score you cupcakes and toddler hugs.
