Grumpy Rainy Day? Just add a tent to turn it around!

First I set up the tent and Ezri took Ivan on a tour showing him the door and the window and telling him to call it an igloo.

Ezri then began adding “materials” she needed to the tent.

And she just kept adding materials. “Mama, we need lots of materials.”

“Ezri, can you even fit in the tent with all that in there?”
“YES!”

That is a cat door, kids.

Ezri is firefighter Ezri. Ivan is obviously trapped in a burning building.

There’s still nothing as fun as a box.

The box was Ezri’s car and she invited all her stuffed animals to a car party. Many attended.

Guess who won her first game of Chutes and Ladders.

“I winned two times!” says Ezri. She won her second game too despite some fierce grandparental competition from Harvey and Liz.

She remains undefeated. . . for now.
She is also now the master of the 24 piece jigsaw puzzle.

Ezri crashed her first party today.

We went to the playroom of the Westmont Yard and unwittingly entered an area being used by Abigail’s 6th birthday party. Ezri joined the twelve “big” girls who were having a dance party. The staff leader was inviting each girl to come to the center of the circle and teach the circle a dance move they liked. Ezri’s dance is holding up a peace sign with your right hand and a fist with your left hand and then doing small bounces double-time to the music. I am thankful to Abigail’s party and her mom for letting us crash the dance and bounce house portion. I am extra proud of Ezri for being willing to leave politely and let the party move on to relay races without us.

I have no photos and, really, I’d love a video of Ezri showing off her signature dance, but here she is sleeping because a post needs a photo.

Ezri’s Zoo

Ezri and I use her blocks to make a zoo for her animals.

Bug Squad Playdate

We read Ladybug Girl and The Bug Squad

We had a bug hunt for rubber bug fingerpuppets hiding on the porch.

We built a fort to be the base for bugsquad.

We made inside daisy chain art out of pipe cleaners and faux flowers.

We had snacks.

We rounded up two wagons and headed to the park.

We learned that our bug squad can fly. They just need swings with their wings.

We held slide race show downs.

Ladybug Girl proved she really is super strong by pulling the wagon home.

The Longy and the Shorty of it.

I told Ezri that as a girl I had a dog named Shorty.

At the park today she declared herself to be a dog named Longy. She stretched out on the park bench and said, “I am Longy because I am so long. Longy is a good dog.” She pointed at Ivan in my lap, “That is Shorty.” We proceeded to play puppy, I threw a stick for Longy and she would run to it tuck it under her chin and return the stick to me. Even when we pretend puppy, we do not put sticks in our mouths. That is going too far. Ezri told me, “Amanda, you are Longy’s owner.” In addition to fetch, Longy knew how to sit, lie down, shake hands, roll over and jump. She was not very good at stay, but better at the command “Dance!” than any dog I’ve met.

Longy and Shorty play ball.

I’m playing sit on Ivan.

Ezri: I’m playing sit on Ivan.
Me: Oh, Ezri
Ezri: It’s okay. He likes it.

She was right.
He did.

Zoo Day Q&A

No.

Is Meghan bigger than a grizzly bear?
No.

Are Meghan & Ezri bigger than a grizzly bear?
No.

What if Ezri reaches?
Still no.

Can Ezri ride a kangaroo?
Yes!

Morning with Ezri

I thought I might do a morning in the life of Ezri, aged 3.

This morning Ezri had cereal and yogurt for breakfast.
She decided to stay in her pajamas while we played with play dough.

We did stories with Ivan and read his most recent Babybug magazine, Someday by Allison McGhee, A Huge Hog is a Big Pig, Whose Shoe by Margaret Miller, and Shortcut by David Macaulay.

We played with Ezri’s magnets identifying letters and numbers. Ezri said, “The I is for both Ezri and Ivan. We share.” She had astutely noticed “I” is the only letter their first names have in common.
Ezri practiced tracing letters on the nook color.

I decided it was time for daytime clothes and Ezri got dressed all by herself picking a polka dot shirt and flowered pants. Okay, she did need a little parental help with her socks.

We watched a few short videos of Biz Markies’ beat of the day and practiced our beatboxing.

Ezri peed in her potty at her own request (this is huge!) and got a sticker of Funshine Bear.

Ezri did some yoga poses without her shirt on just like our friend, Mark.

We decided to go out to Subway for lunch. I told Ezri she’d need her shirt on for lunch.
Ezri ordered her own turkey sandwich “with cheese, please.”

We walked a block to Fishel Park where there was a new mound of bark mulch that had not yet been spread. It was our mountain and we ran over it many times.
Ezri played rocket and had a slight meltdown due to the fact that she is now too big to be lifted into the baby swings at this park which has high baby swings. In true debate form she told me that “Meghan who is grown-up has swinged on the baby swings.” Yes, but Meghan was being silly and could get into the swing by herself I countered.

We headed home to feed Ivan some baby moosh in his highchair. Ezri used the nook to read a Little Critter book while I fed Ivan.

Ezri used the potty before nap and was read Mr. Grumpy during her potty time.
Then we got ready for naptime with even more stories – Fancy Nancy and the Boy from Paris and Fancy Nancy at the Museum.

Then Ezri went to sleep and I got to do some time for serious peek-a-boo with the little brother.

It’s not a post without photos, so here are Ezri and Eric playing superheros in the backyard last night.

This is as close as “Super Ezri” came to flying.

Here Super Eric is after Super Ezri. Run, Super Ezri, run!
