Apple picking the last week of September

It was awfully warm back there in late September.

We had fun in the pumpkin patch until the “pumpkin fight” incident.

In the pumpkin patch, Ezri was marching toward us carrying a 5 lb pumpkin and chanting, “pumpkin fight, pumpkin fight.” Then she hurled the pumpkin at Ivan’s head and bonk. He wailed and she seemed genuinely surprised at the negative responses to her grand pumpkin fight idea. Snowballs and pumpkins are very different. Maybe I should’ve anticipated during the chanting – but really what did she think was going to happen?

Makes this photo a little more ominous as I now know that is the projectile pumpkin.

And makes me glad she couldn’t lift the bigger pumpkins for very long.

After recovering from being hit in the head with a pumpkin, Ivan tripped on part of a plow in a field and cut his leg.
A lollipop was needed to speed his recovery.
Somehow Ezri got one too. Guess what color it was.

Ivan did have some high moments too. He got to meet a llama who he called, “Llama llama red pajama.” He got to slide down a huge tube slide repeatedly and throw worm shaped beanbags into apple shaped targets. While Ezri loved playing in the pit of feed corn and feeling it between her bare toes, Ivan is not interested and kept lifting his feet saying, “get it off!” We moved on to racing plastic ducks with pumps, both kids agree that plastic floaty ducks getting moved by pumping water is just fun.

I think tomorrow we may decorate our haul of 4 pumpkins from this outing. We already ate the apples.

Our maples are losing their leaves.

Nature really does make the best play things and fall leaves are one of them.

Ezri was most distressed that Eric put her “leaf nests” into yard waste bags today.
Given the joy of the leaf piles this week, I should’ve seen that one coming.
But, one maple still has most of its leaves, so I could promise her more nests to build before fall is over.

Super sloths!

This is Super Sloth and her sidekick, Baby Super Sloth.
They are rescuing the people flying through the air (leaves) so they don’t hit the ground and get hurt.
Super Sloth is the leader because she has ALL the super powers.
Don’t worry.  Regular sloths are slow, but super sloths can ZOOM-ZOOM-ZOOM!

I have no idea where the idea to be super sloths originated.

Ezri finds she can climb the tree in her grandparents’ front yard.

She is delighted.

Repeat.

We also turned upside down buckets into a bed. After a long day of mowing with the toy mower Ezri would wait to hear the owls hooting (that’s me and Ivan making owl noises). Then she would wash her mower in the wading pool before heading to her bucket bed to cuddle under her towel. When she heard me cock-a-doodle doo, she would know it was morning and get up to repeat this cycle. It was fun and I got to practice my cock-a-doodle doo.

Despite a bit of grief over the worms in the puddles who didn’t survive the shower, we had a good rainy morning of fun.

Watching Ducks at Barth Pond

On this day both were wearing their Spider-man shirts.
As soon as they were dressed in the morning Ezri said, “We are both wearing Spider-man shirts. Let’s Spider-man Boogie!” She then danced around trying to get Ivan to follow her lead. He did a bit of a happy stomp with her. The Spider-man Boogie is fun.

It was a fabulous spring afternoon. The ducks had their attention. Ivan kept pointing and saying, “Quack! Quack!” He almost followed the ducks into the pond a couple of times.

Also, in these photos I think my kids look phenotypically similar.

Daffodils

Ezri brought along Minnie Mouse for a visit to Daffodil Glade.
At first she didn’t remember last year’s trip, but when she saw the field in bloom. She said, “I remember here!”

She was off and running and much better this year at avoiding daffodil trampling.

Ivan tried really hard to catch up with her, but despite his best efforts he was often far behind.

Chasing after your big sister is hard work. Luckily there were nice resting trees to lean against.

This scene ended in a hug and then a fall into the flowers.

Busy Sunday

Ezri wore her pinkest to party at her preschool friend L’s house for L’s 4th brithday.

Then in the afternoon we were off to the arboretum with Meghan. It was the first day warm enough to wade.

Spidergirl did some climbing.

Then she did some playing in the adventure woods. There is a portion of tree house there that I call “Ewok village” as it has that look. As soon as I asked if we should go to “Ewok village,” Ivan said “bacca.” That’s his word for Chewbacca who is not an Ewok, but for 19 months Ivan’s got some serious Star Wars knowledge.

Meghan took this picture of the small adventurer.
