February 3rd, 2014 — artwork, Ivan
Ezri and Ivan worked together well to color this whole giant sized coloring page of a dinosaur.
Ivan’s scribbles and Ezri’s more focused coloring make a nice mix.
Then I asked what the dinosaur says.
ROAR!
This is the completed dinosaur suitable for the refrigerator.
Other Ezri news:
Ezri is learning to type some words and called out wondering how to get the “red dots” to go away from her name. Spellcheck does not know your name, Ezri. It was fine with the other family names she’d typed. No red dots for “Ivan.”
She has taught her brother that if she has a snack and commands “Speak” that replying “Woof!” will get him some of her crackers. This kept them entertained for 20 minutes in the car.
March. . . in like a lion
March 29th, 2013 — artwork
These are crafts she brought home from preschool this month.
I am not sure we’ve hit the lamb part yet, though I was outside without my winter coat yesterday. Ezri also donned her hello kitty helmet for her first bike ride to the park of spring. She has requested we install a bell. She declared herself to be “Bike GIRL!” Ivan was “Wagon BOY!” I was the superhero “Pull GIRL!” Given her pronunciation I thought I might be “pole girl,” but then realized she was referencing my job regarding the wagon.

March 28th, 2013 — artwork, outside play
She spent a long time getting her composition just right before allowing me photograph it.
Before placing it in the center of her artwork she spun the found milk ring on her finger and said, “My finger has a little hula hoop!”
Dog
March 4th, 2013 — artwork
Ezri used google eyes for this dog drawing. Her drawings have gotten much more representational.
I said I liked the five fingers he had on each hand.
She informed me those are his sharp, sharp claws.
I was told this morning by Ezri that she is wearing her fuzzy dress which is a stretch velveteen so that I will give her lots of hugs because she loves me. Later I was told that no parents should be allowed in this house and she could make her own lunch and did not need parents. We’re running hot and cold here.
Crafty Kitty Ezri
February 27th, 2013 — artwork
Ezri made a kitty headband.
The making of this craft was when we had this conversation:
ezri: The nose needs pupils. I’ll draw them.
me: Oh, the nose pupils are called nostrils.
Giving up on actual snow, today we made a play dough “snow” fellow.
January 24th, 2013 — artwork, at play
We made the play dough so the food coloring bottles were handy to decorate becoming his eyes and nose.
Ezri loved him and promised to keep him safe. Though later we ate his M&Ms and squashed him to make birds, a nest, eggs, a merry-go-round and a bunch of snakes.
Getting crafty
December 17th, 2012 — artwork
While listening to Laurie Berkner’s Christmas songs, Ezri decided to draw her own Rudolf.
Inspired by the most excellent picture book Dinosaur versus Santa, Ezri and two friends made popsicle stick photo frames.
Her gingerbread house with some outerspace inhabitants that came in her Hanukkah pockets this year.
This Santa advent calendar was brought home from preschool. We are adding a cotton ball every day and will add the last one to complete his beard on Christmas Day. It’s a great visual on how many days till Christmas.
Ezri also brought this one home from preschool and said, “Can you tell what it is? Look at the tail? He rolled in the mud.”
This craft’s from preschool too.
Me: What is it?
Ezri: It’s my little carrot. I planted it.
Inspired by Ed Emberley
November 11th, 2012 — artwork, books
Recently a friend was talking about her daughter’s drawings inspired by Ed Emberley’s drawing books.
So, we busted out an Emberley drawing book on making drawings with fingerprints and some washable markers.
We had a lot of fun. These are turtles climbing a mountain and assorted other doodles from The Complete Funprint Drawing Book.
In my basement book collection I still have the 1979 Big Green Drawing Book my mother got signed for me at an ALA conference. We’ll have to pull it out for more ideas.
