After 2 years as one of Mrs. Paul’s Pals, Ezri is done with preschool and will be moving on up to Kindergarten in the fall.
Here she is with her friend, Ellie, at the picnic celebrating.

The assembled rising kindergarteners received cheers and claps.

Here she is with Mrs. Paul who Ezri declared to be “the greatest teacher ever. Other kids might think their teacher is the greatest, but the real greatest teacher is Mrs. Paul.”

Ezri loves hearts and sugar, so this candy was perfect.
Though I did have to read each one to her, except that ones that said “I <3 U" she could read those herself.
Also, we've gained heaps of freckles in the last two weeks. Both Ezri and I are very freckled.

Ezri calls squirting herself with the garden hose a “squirtie selfie.”

Tam and Mark came to stay with the kids for 3 days and 4 nights while Eric and I traveled to Wyoming to celebrate a good friend’s wedding. It was the first time Eric and I had both been away simultaneously since Ezri was born. Eric did spend one night in the hospital with Ivan and I after his birth – so we were both away from Ezri that night.
I missed my kids, but enjoyed myself. The reverse seems to be true of the kids. Here is a photo of the kids with the grandparents after our return – all still smiling. It is weird (though natural) that as they grow our lives become more separate and this first longer separation made me realize I am becoming less the center of their world. This is a good thing, but I anticipate nostalgia for these early years.

We read Jeff Mack’s picture book The Things I Can Do. It inspired us to think about the things Ezri can do. She is demonstrating that she can do a puppet show with her feet.

Here is a big pile of friends on the futon. While we were gone this same thing happened in the bathroom with a “hair salon” styling of the plush friends.

Notice that no real animals were photographed in the making of these snapshots.
All children featured have a librarian for a parent.

With all its lilacs and tulips, Ezri is pretty sure that at night this park is a fairy playground and they have butterflies for pets. She and Ivan made a pine tree their “secret base.” Ivan was a super spy penguin and Ezri was a mermaid during our outing. They enjoyed climbing on rocks and, despite initial fears, no one fell into the fountain at the center of the park.

Ezri and Eric got me cupcakes from Busy Bee. Ezri gave me comics from Free Comic Book Day and all the hugs I asked her for. It was a good day.
